Frank Carbon, regional governor of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Western Visayas and Negros Island Region, on Sunday, June 4, said they will not exacerbate the situation as the business sector is still reeling from the recent incident at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.
Carbon said like the previous transport strike, there are no movements in the operations of local businesses as transportation will not be fully stopped.
“We recognize the right of the transport sector to demonstrate their concerns by holding protest, but we do not want to add burden and discomfort to the public thus, business transactions will remain normal,” he added.
On the Resorts World Manila attack last Friday, which killed 38 people, including the gunman, mostly due to suffocation, and wounded more than 50 persons, the local business group expressed concerns on its affect to tourism.
Carbon, also the chief executive officer of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the Manila incident as well as terrorism activities in Marawi City and Bohol will surely affect negatively the tourism industry, which is a vital component of business.
He said they hoped that the Department of Tourism will recognize the impact and do something quickly to counter the bad publicity brought by these criminal and terrorist acts.
For the local police, the business leader reiterated the call that they should be very visible especially in places that are vulnerable to such disturbances.
“We have to maintain normalcy, show to terrorist that they are not winning. We have to unite, work together, and display a brave front, he added.
