THE Tatak Kalamay, a multi-sector group based in Negros Occidental composed of sugar industry stakeholders, has expressed openness to work with the food processors in the country, particularly in addressing the latter’s needs.

This came after the pronouncement of the Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organization Incorporated (Philfoodex) that it is not supporting the proposed liberalization or deregulation of sugar importation.

MANILA -- It would be a big relief for the sugar industry stakeholders, including those in Negros Occidental, as a group of food processors and exporters in the country is not supporting the proposed liberalization of sugar importation.

THE fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, July 23, has given a feeling of “excitement” to the local business sector, particularly on what will happen to the remaining three years of his administration.

GIVEN the right technology and financing, food producers in Negros Occidental especially those in the rural communities are capable of bringing their products to urban areas.

A BUSINESS group in Negros Occidental is pushing for the creation of the Department of Small Business that will focus on the growth and development particularly of micro and small enterprises in the country.
Frank Carbon, chief executive officer of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), said 99 percent of the registered businesses in the Philippines are small businesses employing 60 to 70 percent of the formal labor force.

A business leader in Bacolod City said yesterday he is upbeat about the support of local government units to small entrepreneurs coming from their respective localities.
Chief executive officer Frank Carbon, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said yesterday that most of the exhibitors who joined the ongoing Business Week fair at Robinsons Place in Bacolod City were "market-ready", meaning, their products are already sophisticated enough for the urban market.

THE Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in Western Visayas has recognized the need to further develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region including Negros Occidental in order for them to be more competitive.
PCCI-Western Visayas governor Donna Rose Ratilla, at the sidelines of the ongoing 11th Negros Business Week at Robinsons Place Bacolod, said SMEs remain to be the backbone of the local economy.
