The business sector in Bacolod City is keen on stopping the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019, Frank Carbon of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said yesterday.
“We are now on the phase on how to minimize our losses, and preserve our capital. We will be ready to spring back quickly when the right time comes and start hiring again,” Carbon said.
Bacolod has reported five confirmed cases of Covid-19. The enhanced community quarantine will start today.
Carbon said the sector will cooperate with the initiatives of the city government, and these include shutting down the operations of establishments and institutions, to contain the virus transmission.
Business establishments in the city have suffered losses due to the drop in sales.
Carbon stressed that they are now focused on helping the city, “We have to stop the bleeding. If the bleeding continues, we will lose blood,” he said, referring to their businesses as their lifeblood.
“We have to prepare for the worst while praying for the best. If this stubborn virus cannot be contained during the enhanced community quarantine, then we should be ready to go to heightened community quarantine. Some cities in Metro Manila have placed some of their barangays on HCQ,” he said.
He also urged the public to heed the advice of local authorities to stop the possible transmission of the virus.
“Let us work together in fighting this faceless enemy. We have to continue looking after each other,” he said.*
