The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry has issued recommendations that the city government can adopt for its proposed tax amnesty ordinance.
Frank Carbon, chief executive officer of MBCCI, said their recommendations will generate the much-needed cash for the city and give reprieve to a much-burdened populace.
This is in time for the public hearing set next week, he added.
In a letter sent yesterday to Councilor Al Espino, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Ways and Means, the MBCCI recommended that those who were not able to pay their real property tax for 2019 and the previous years have the option to pay on or before July 31 without surcharges and penalties.
Those who were not able to pay in the first quarter which was due on March 31, and the second quarter due on June 30, have the option to pay on or before July 31 without surcharges and penalties, the group said.
It added that those who would like to pay their real property tax for 2020 will enjoy a 10 percent discount provided they will pay in full on or before July 31.
On the business tax, those who were not able to pay in 2019 and the previous years will have the option to pay in full on or before July 31 without surcharges and penalties, the MBCCI recommended.
Those who were not able to process and pay their business tax due on January 20, April 20, and July 20 will have the option to pay on or before July 31, without surcharges and penalties, it added.
The group also suggested that those who were not able to pay their business tax on April 20 but was able to settle on January 20 will have the option to pay on or before July 31, without surcharges and penalties.
The group had appealed earlier to the city government to extend the deadline for tax payment as the coronavirus disease 2019 threatens the survival of businesses.*
